A Round

A Round
a-round is an artwork of inclusiveness - a gathering place and a simple elegant form.
As sculpture and circular seat it offers both form and function encouraging participation through sitting, meeting, relaxing and talking together. Small events, organised or impromptu may incidentally build around the work.
a-round seeks to encourage the coming together of the residents of Crowle Estate by providing a focal point in the garden adjacent to Tellegra House. Over time community usage of the heritage house may require spill-out spaces that connect the internal use of the building with the surrounding gardens. a-round can offer this.
The strength of a-round lies in its simplicity, made all the more intriguing for its counterbalance. Most of the form hovers above ground supported only at two ends. Lighting underneath the form will create an ethereal affect at night empasizing its simple circularity and subtle sense of levitation from the ground.
Meaning lies in the relationship to place and community over time. The circle is a strong symbol of harmony, equality and inclusion.
