Holes in the Harbour

This artwork highlights the experience of Sydney Harbour as volume. It acknowledges the vastness of this huge body of water and energy we so often take for granted in a poetic and sculptural way, evoking a strange juxtaposition of depth and space at the same time.

Voids - cylindrical holes, cubic holes, simple geometric ‘negative’ forms appear like perforations, 3 dimensional shapes cut into the water. It is normally only possible to carve into a solid material. The creation of a ‘negative’ space within a body of liquid arouses curiosity. These sculptural voids in a reversal of focus emphasize the harbour as the subject of the work. Through playing with the simple principle’ of displacement a large scale site specific artwork is created ‘in’ and ‘of’ Sydney Harbour.
