Sitting Stones

Sitting Stones comprises a group of 5 large sandstone blocks set in a small park within the Trio development.

Quarried from the site, the blocks have moved from below ground to create a new gathering place above ground.

The original shape of the of the blocks (approximately 2m x 1m x1m) has been maintained. Simple geometric shapes have been carved into them to provide nestling spaces for the body.

Sitting Stones is an artwork for people to engage with. The carved spaces ask you to climb a stair and sit in a hidden seat or share a stone to read in. As a collection they encourage both the reverie of the individual and the playful engagement of the group.
