Tidal Tilt Pools

Tidal Tilt Pools
Barangaroo’s northern cove presents an aquatic amphitheatre. Its steps and rock ledges create a tidal littoral zone inviting us to put our toes in the water. Tidal Tilt Pool takes this invitation further and offers a playful, immersive and performative experience with its combination of stage, walkway, pool/s and sundeck.
The pools are both immersive and performative, recreation and art.
Beneath the Sydney Observatory, and inspired by the moon and its tidal pull, these circular dished pools tilt with the tide to reveal a crescent shaped tidal ‘beach zone’ at low tide. Due to pivot and ballast positioning the pool vessel will tilt with tidal movement, tipping down on one side as the tide goes down to reveal the raised beach zone and righting itself to horizontal at mean high tide.
The crescent moon shape of the pool’s littoral ‘beach’ zone will slowly increase and decrease with the turning of the tides. This zone offers wonderful opportunities for pattern and texture as the tilting of the pool continuously reveals and then submerges this surface.
